Hike to Monte Vettore in Sibillini mountains (Italy) – Zum Monte Vettore in den Monte Sibillini (Italien)

The trip to the starting point of our hike in the Sibillini mountains in the northern part of the Central Apennines is just breathtakingly beautiful.

Early in the morning there is still a dense cloud cover over the Piano Grande di Castelluccio, a plateau of about 15 square kilometers at 1273 meters. The sun, already high up on this late summer day, bathes the landscape in a magical morning light.

At the Forca di Presta, a mountain pass, we are above a sea of ​​clouds. Here we set off to Monte Vettore, with 2476 meters, the highest mountain in the National Park Sibillini mountains.

The partly steep and strenuous path leads through a unique landscape of the predominant limestone and grassland created by grazing. In late summer, there are many high alpine plants on the extensive mountain meadows, such as Carline thistles, which attract thousands of insects.

The view of the valley is breathtaking as we ascent to the 2233-meter-high saddle: steep cliffs and grassy slopes, a herd of sheep grazing there with her shepherd and above it the almost cloudless blue sky.

Half an hour later we also enjoy this view from the summit of Monte Vettore At the summit stands two crosses, one still erected, and another that was struck by lightning and bent half way. As we relax on the mountain top we are already dreaming of our next hike in the Sibillini mountains.

Schon die Fahrt zum Ausgangsunkt unserer Wanderung in den Sibillinischen Bergen im Nordteil des Zentralapennin ist so schön, dass wir am liebsten stehen bleiben und nur schauen würden.

Früh am Morgen liegt noch eine dichte Wolkendecke über der Piano Grande di Castelluccio, eine Hochebene von etwa 15 Quadratkilometern auf über 1273 Meter.

Die im Spätsommer schon hochstehende Sonne zaubert ein einzigartiges Licht und lässt die Konturen der hier weidenden Pferde und Schafe verschwimmen.

An der Forca di Presta, einer Passhöhe, stehen wir dann über dem Wolkenmeer und beginnen mit dem Aufstieg zum Monte Vettore, mit 2476 Metern, der höchste Berg im Nationalpark Sibillinische Berge.

Der teilweise steile und anstrengende Weg führt durch eine einzigartige Landschaft aus dem hier vorherrschenden Kalkstein und durch Beweidung entstandenes Grasland. Im Spätsommer finden sich auf den ausgedehnten Bergwiesen viele hochalpine Pflanzen wie Silberdisteln, die Tausende Insekten anlocken.

Der Blick ins Tal ist schon beim Aufstieg auf den 2233 Meter hohen Sattel mit der kleinen Hütte Rifugio Tito Zilioli atemberaubend schön und kann beim Betreten des hufeisenförmigen südlichen Monte Sibillini Kamms noch gesteigert werden:  Steil abfallende Felsen und  Grashänge, eine dort weidende Schafherde mit ihrem Hirten und darüber der fast wolkenlose blaue Himmel.

Diesen Ausblick genießen wir eine halbe Stunde später auch vom Gipfel des Monte Vettore mit seinem nicht mehr intakten eisernen Gipfelkreuz und der daran befestigten Madonna und wir träumen dabei bereits von unserer nächsten Wanderung in den Sibillinischen Bergen.
